On Wednesday we got up about 6.30 to leave Saint Cast. The next door boat helped us leave and gave us some biscuits! Archie got up about 2 hours later. We motorsailed past the Ile de Brehat and up a river to Lezardrieux. We could see mud and oyster beds at low tide. In the afternoon Daddy had to get a taxi to sign us out of France. Me, Mummy and Fergus went into town and found a shop that sold chocolate crepes, then we wrote some postcards on the boat.
On Thursday we got a ferry to the Ile de Brehat and cycled around the island.
We visited a fort that now has a glass blowing workshop. We learned that they cool the glass in an oven at 515 degrees so that the glass doesn't cool down too fast and break from thermal shock. We also learned that different minerals are added to the glass to make different colours.
We went to some viewpoints, one of which was a lighthouse. The island is surrounded by rocks, lots of them are covered at high tide. At low tide some of the harbours dry out and the boats are high and dry.
We had a nice lunch - me and Fergus shared a beefburger, Mummy and Daddy had pate, fish and ham in cider.
On the way home we were very tired after all our cycling, and we had to walk a long way to the ferry because the tide was out.
Yesterday, Friday, we sailed from Lezardrieux back to Fowey in Cornwall. The trip took 17 hours and was about 120 miles which is our longest trip so far.
When we left the tide was high and the rocks that the lighthouses were on were submerged. On the way out we were passed by a couple of fast windfarm support catamarans
We saw a couple of dolphins playing by the boat. We motorsailed about half way, then had a nice sail in the afternoon, then had to motor again for the last hour or so, and got in about 11pm.
Now that we are in Fowey we are going to see on cousins and grandma who live close by.
