Dinghy driving lessons
Today we did some dinghy driving lessons.
We drove around the lifeboat and different boats in the harbour. When we practiced docking we would head toward the fishing boat on the pier. We were using our new 2 stroke outboard that we bought in Alderney. It was carried here on a ship from England
The different engines
We have three outboard engines. Two of them are petrol and one is electric. I prefer the electric engine because it is quieter and it doesn't pollute the environment.
Walking round Alderney
We walked to a big hill. On top of the hill there was a fort and lots of different hidden bunkers. There were also lots of gorse bushes and buttercups.
On the walk back we walked along the train line. We knew we would be safe because the next train is on Saturday and today is Wednesday.
Visiting the fort
The fort was built by the Germans in World War 2 to defend the coast. Inside the fort there were three storeys of lookouts, and in the top one you could drop grenades through a chute. There were sleeping rooms and radio rooms, and in some of the rooms there were pretend people to show you what it would have been like in the war.
