Provident and the Heritage Regatta
Before Daddy did the Clipper race he worked for Trinity Sailing in Brixham running Leader, Provident and Golden Vanity. Leader and Provident were due to be at the Brixham Heritage Regatta. Unfortunately, Leader had to stop in Newlyn on the way to Brixham so wasn't at the Heritage Regatta, but Provident was there to celebrate her centenary year. She is a Brixham Sailing Trawler made of wood. She has a bowsprit that is used to set extra sails.
We saw her sailing from Berry Head and she had eight sails set.
I loved the sea shanties and hope that Daddy and Papadon will teach me some.
While we were in Brixham we met up with some of Mummy and Daddy's friends.
We watched the start of the regatta, there were lots of traditional boats of all sizes, lots of them had red sails.
Sailing to Jersey
We left Brixham at 7am on Monday. We were already moving when me and Fergus woke up. At the start it wasn't very windy so we were motorsailing, but it soon picked up and we turned off the engine.
We had an Atlantic swell and as the wind increased the waves got bigger. Fergus loved the massive waves.
When we were approaching Guernsey we hit 11.1 knots over the ground when we had the tide with us (normally we do 6-8 knots so 11 is fast for us!)
Whilst we were in the middle of the channel we saw a small pod of common dolphins. We also saw adult and juvenile gannets. The adults are white with yellow heads and black wing tips, but the juveniles are brown.
Arriving in Jersey
We got to Jersey on Monday evening. We passed a cool golden motorboat on the way in (this is not our picture, it was moored when we saw it)
Yesterday we went to a cafe, had a hot chocolate and played Scabby Queen. We did home school and some jobs on the boat. Today after home school we are going to explore more of Jersey.
